The official gold bullion coin of the United States, The American Gold Buffalo was introduced in 2006 and is minted and guaranteed by the government of the United States. This legal tender coin has a denomination of $50 and contains 1 troy ounce of 99.99% pure gold. The American Gold Buffalo coin portrays the classic Indian head, which was featured on the original Indian Head Nickel that was minted from 1913 - 1938. To the right of the meticulously detailed Indian head is inscribed "Liberty," and the year of mintage is inscribed at the bottom.The American Buffalo image is portrayed on the reverse. Inscribed across the top of the coin is the phrase "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," with the phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM", meaning "Out of many, one," directly bellow. To the left of the Buffalo is written "IN GOD WE TRUST" and below the coin is the coin's denomination, weight, and purity of gold.
