What the live price tells you.
Four numbers worth understanding before you buy or sell a single ounce.
Spot price
The reference price for one troy ounce (31.1 g) for immediate settlement. Metals trade globally, nearly around the clock on weekdays.
Bid & ask
The ask is where the market sells; the bid is where it buys. The gap is the spread. Coins and bars add a product premium.
Net change
Green or red shows the move since the prior 5:00 PM ET close, in dollars and percent, so you see today at a glance.
Metal ratios
The gold/silver ratio shows how many ounces of silver one ounce of gold buys. Many buyers watch it to judge relative value.

How we set our reference prices.
Precious metals trade on a global level, and their prices are driven by supply and demand. In finance, a spot contract is the price for immediate purchase and sale of a commodity such as gold, based on same-day settlement.
The prices on this site are quantitatively computed from global underlying paper prices and weighted on those underlying markets. They can be independent of any single external venue or association methodology. Our goal is simple: give you a consistent, reliable reference price for spot.
Spot is a reference, not a guarantee on the physical market. What you pay for a coin or bar also reflects its product premium and availability, and your price is confirmed when your order is placed.
One live market. Both directions.
We are not marketers. We focus on one thing: competitive two-way markets in physical metal, and shipping and receiving it securely.
Buy or sell, same market
Buy from us or sell to us. Either way your price is set by the live market, not a sales pitch.
100% insured, discreet
Every order is fully insured and shipped with absolute discretion, door to door.

What is the spot price of gold?
The spot price is the reference price for one troy ounce of metal for immediate settlement. This page shows live spot prices for gold, silver, platinum and palladium in U.S. dollars per troy ounce (31.1 grams).
What is the difference between the bid and the ask?
The ask is the price at which the market offers to sell metal, and the bid is the price at which it will buy. The gap between them is the spread. Coins and bars also carry a product premium over spot, which is why each product has its own price.
What does the green or red change mean?
It shows how far the price has moved since the prior trading day’s 5:00 PM ET close, in dollars and in percent. Green means the price is up, red means it is down. Over the weekend it shows Friday’s close against Thursday’s.
When do metal prices move?
Precious metals trade on global markets nearly around the clock on weekdays, from Sunday 6:00 PM ET to Friday 5:00 PM ET, with a short daily break from 5:00 to 6:00 PM ET.
Why can your prices differ from other websites?
Our reference prices are computed from global underlying markets and weighted on those markets, so they can differ from other venues or association benchmarks. Pricing can also vary with location, supply, logistics and geopolitics.
Is the price shown the price I pay?
No. Live prices are indicative references, not a quote. Your actual buy or sell price is confirmed when your order is placed and may differ due to market movement, dealer spreads, product premiums and availability.
How do I buy or sell at live prices?
To buy, open a free account and order online; every order ships 100% insured and discreetly. To sell, visit Selling Metals or call 1-855-528-4653 for a quote.
Why is rhodium priced differently?
Rhodium trades in a thin physical market, so we quote it live by phone. The rhodium figure shown is an estimate; call 1-855-528-4653 for a firm quote.
