Gold Price Today: Gold Rises 1.7% to $3,943 as Silver Tops $51 and Oil Falls

Spot gold was $3,943.37 at 8:45 AM ET, up $67.72 from Friday’s close. Silver rose 4.0% to $51.11. Both gained in two bursts, at Sunday’s reopen and in a 15-minute jump at 8:35 AM ET, and oil fell both times on hopes for U.S.-Iran talks. Fed hike odds rose, so rates did not lift gold.

This pre-market note uses spot prices as of 8:45 AM ET on Nov 2, 2026. For Friday’s session, when gold fell $144.92 to $3,875.65, read the market close note.

The short version

  • Gold price today: spot gold is $3,943.37 an ounce at 8:45 AM ET, up $67.72 (1.75%) from Friday’s 5:00 PM ET close of $3,875.65. It got back about half of Friday’s fall.
  • When it rose: $31 between the Sunday reopen and the Shanghai open at 8:00 PM ET, then $34 in the 15 minutes from 8:30 AM ET. London trading sold it back to $3,891.26 in between.
  • Why: oil fell in both bursts. Brent was $106.75 at 8:48 AM ET, down 5.9% from Friday’s settlement, on reports that President Trump wants more time for talks with Iran. Fed hike odds for December rose to 76% from 72%, and the dollar fell 0.38%.
  • Silver price today: spot silver is $51.11, up $1.98 (4.03%). It closed above $51 in the 8:30 AM ET bar. The gold/silver ratio fell to 77.2 from 78.9.
  • Data today: nothing before this note. The ISM manufacturing index is due at 10:00 AM ET.

Why is gold up today?

Gold rose in two bursts, and Brent crude fell during both. Rates did not help. Fed funds futures put the odds of a December 9 hike at 76%, up from 72% at Friday’s close. The 2-year Treasury yield is 0.01 point higher. The dollar index fell 0.38%, which accounts for about a quarter of gold’s gain by our measure.

  1. Sunday reopen (6:00 PM ET). Gold opened $19 above Friday’s close. Brent fell 1.3% at its own open, Reuters reported, after weekend reports on U.S.-Iran talks.
  2. Shanghai open (8:00 PM ET). Gold rose $12 to $3,914.20 in the 15 minutes after the Shanghai Gold Exchange opened. Volume was 4.6 times normal. Brent fell 56 cents in the same bar.
  3. Asia, then London (12:30 to 3:15 AM ET). Gold reached $3,919.51 at 12:30 AM ET as the dollar slipped. It then fell $28 to $3,891.26 by 3:15 AM ET, into the London open, while the dollar kept falling.
  4. A quiet morning (3:15 to 8:30 AM ET). Gold held between $3,891 and $3,910. It has closed every 15-minute bar above $3,900 since 6:00 AM ET.
  5. The 8:35 AM ET jump. Gold rose $34.09 in the 8:30 AM ET bar, to $3,943.37, with a high of $3,949.73. Volume was 4.7 times normal, the heaviest since Friday’s open. Brent fell about $2.50 at the same time. The dollar and 2-year Treasury futures were flat. We found no headline timed to the jump.

Our read is short covering after Friday’s sell-off. The World Gold Council said this morning that recent selling was “driven by leveraged investors,” with COMEX managed-money positions down about 11 tonnes since mid-October. We can see the timing and the volume, not who bought.

Today’s economic data and what it means

No U.S. data came out before this note. Three reports are due this morning.

ReportForecastActualWhat it means
Factory PMI56.0dueOctober final, 9:45 AM ET, S&P Global. The flash reading was 56.0
ISM factories54.5dueOctober, 10:00 AM ET. September was 54.5. Above 50 means growth
ISM prices77.2dueOctober, 10:00 AM ET. Prices factories pay; September was 77.9
Construction0.4%dueSeptember spending, 10:00 AM ET, Census Bureau. August rose 0.9%

ISM manufacturing (Institute for Supply Management): the index is forecast at 54.5, the same as September. The prices index matters more for the Fed. A reading near 77 would mean factories are still paying sharply higher prices, mostly for fuel. A higher number would add to the case for a December hike.

What it adds up to: today’s reports are about factories and building. The bigger test is Friday’s October jobs report, forecast at 63,000 after 29,000 in September.

How much was the dollar?

The U.S. Dollar Index is 101.58, down 0.38% from Friday’s close. Its low was 101.43 at 4:00 AM ET. Over the past two weeks gold is down 4.8% and the dollar 0.3%.

The 10-year Treasury yield is 4.92% and the 30-year 5.27%, down 0.01 and 0.04 point from Friday. The 2-year is 4.61%. Treasury’s Friday figures had the 10-year at 4.94% and the 30-year at 5.31%. The 10-year real yield was 2.60% on Friday, its lowest in 20 trading days, the Treasury said. The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 7.24% in Freddie Mac’s weekly survey (Oct 29), down 0.08 point from a week earlier. The 15-year was 6.60%.

Trend check

On our monthly trend model, both metals turned to a bear reading at the end of October. Their 12-month and one-month returns, after cash returns, were both down as of Oct 30. Since 2002, gold rose in the month after a bear month 49% of the time; that is history, not a forecast. Silver’s 12-month return is within 0.1% of turning up, so at today’s price the model’s live reading for silver would be a rebound. Gold would need to rise about 6.4% for the same.

What the Fed is expected to do next

Fed funds futures imply about 76% odds of a quarter-point hike at the December 9 meeting, as of 8:29 AM ET, up from 72% at Friday’s close. The odds of a hike at the January 27 meeting itself are about 30%. Counting both meetings, futures price about 83% odds of at least one hike by January 27.

No Fed releases or speeches came out over the weekend. Friday’s hawkish remarks from Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan and St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem are the latest. Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee moderates a conference discussion at 11:15 AM ET. The Fed’s survey of bank loan officers comes out at 2:00 PM ET. The next decision is December 9.

Frequently asked questions

What is the gold price today?

Spot gold was $3,943.37 an ounce at 8:45 AM ET on Nov 2, 2026, up $67.72 (1.75%) from Friday’s close of $3,875.65. Since Sunday’s reopen it has traded between $3,891.26 and $3,950.61. For the current bid and ask, see our live metal prices page.

Why is gold up after Friday’s fall?

Gold rose at Sunday’s reopen and in a 15-minute jump at 8:35 AM ET, and oil fell both times on hopes for U.S.-Iran talks. Rate expectations did not help: December hike odds rose to 76%. Our read is that traders who sold on Friday bought back.

Why did silver rise more than gold?

Silver rose 4.0% against gold’s 1.75%, or 2.3 times as much. Over the past 20 trading days silver has moved about 1.8 times as much as gold. It fell further on Friday too, so it had more to recover.

Is gold’s rebound a good time to buy?

We don’t give investment advice, and no one can reliably call short-term lows. Gold has recovered about half of Friday’s fall, and this week brings the midterm elections, two likely rate hikes abroad and the jobs report. Some buyers add on dips; others buy a fixed amount on a schedule, which our Auto-Buy program does automatically. Whatever you choose, compare the premium over spot.
