Gold Price Today: Gold Rises 0.3% to $4,190 as Yields and Oil Ease
Gold dipped to $4,151 on Monday night, held there, and rose to $4,200 as Treasury yields fell when the bond market reopened. Here’s what moved metals before the New York open, the levels our desk is watching, and why Wednesday’s inflation report is the next test.

The short version
- Gold price today: $4,189.60 an ounce on our ask at 8:37 AM ET, up $13.80 (0.3%) from Monday’s closing ask of $4,175.80. Spot traded between $4,150.79 and $4,200.63 overnight.

- What’s next: gold stopped right at $4,200 and has not closed above it. U.S. CPI on Wednesday at 8:30 AM ET is the main event of the week.
Why was gold up before the open?
Gold ended Monday at $4,175.80 on our ask. In early Asian trading it slipped, reaching $4,150.79 at 9:45 PM ET on about twice normal volume. That put it within a dollar of the $4,143–$4,150 area where gold broke out last Thursday. It did not close a 15-minute bar below $4,155 and bounced straight back.
The dip was selling in gold itself. Between 8:00 and 9:45 PM ET the dollar, Treasury yields and oil were all falling, which normally helps gold. We found no headline that explains it.
The rebound that followed lined up with lower rates. U.S. bonds started trading again at 8:00 PM ET after Monday’s holiday, and the 10-year yield fell from 5.23% to 5.19%. Gold rose to $4,200.63 at 1:15 AM ET, stalled there, and has traded between about $4,180 and $4,195 since. FXStreet tied the recovery to easing yields and oil prices. Brent crude slipped from $106.24 to about $104.55 overnight. HDFC Sky’s commodity research noted that Russia partly lifted its diesel export limits on Oct 10 under a deal with the U.S. Over the past two weeks, lower oil has tended to help gold, because it eases inflation worries and the odds of another Fed rate hike.

How much was the dollar?
All of it. The U.S. Dollar Index fell 0.30% to 102.27 since Monday afternoon. Based on how gold has traded against the dollar, that would have lifted gold about 0.5%. Spot rose 0.3%, so gold actually lagged the weaker dollar slightly.
A second check: gold measured against a basket of major currencies (gold × DXY) is flat since Monday afternoon. Today’s gain is a softer dollar, not new demand for gold.

Silver price today: lagging gold
Silver is at $60.38 on our ask, down 6 cents from Monday’s $60.44. Spot fell to $59.58 at 9:45 PM ET, the same bar as gold’s low, then rose to $60.74 at 1:30 AM ET. It has not closed above $60.73 since.
The gold/silver ratio (how many ounces of silver one ounce of gold buys) is 69.4 on our prices, up from 69.1 at Monday’s close. On spot data it is near the top of its range of the past three weeks. A rising ratio means silver is not keeping up with gold, which is a sign the bounce lacks broad support.

Gold and silver price levels we’re watching
| Level | Gold | Silver | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday-night high | $4,217 | $61.46 | Where Sunday’s push stopped |
| Top of last week’s range | $4,208 | $61.19 | Gold closed above it only in thin Sunday-evening trading; Friday’s silver high |
| Overnight high | $4,200.63 | $60.74 | No 15-minute close above either level yet |
| Overnight low | $4,150.79 | $59.58 | Set at 9:45 PM ET; both bounced the same bar |
| Breakout zone | $4,143–$4,150 | $59.60 | Gold’s breakout area last Thursday; silver’s prior support. Tested overnight, no 15-minute close below |
Over the past 18 sessions a typical day for gold covered about $63 from high to low, and 80% of days stayed inside $80. Overnight gold covered about $50, so there is room for a normal-sized move before the CPI report.
What the Fed is expected to do
According to CME FedWatch, futures markets price an 80.6% chance that the Fed holds rates at 3.75%–4.00% at its October 27–28 meeting and a 19.4% chance of a hike, with no chance of a cut (as of 8:25 AM ET). Hike odds are down from 21.0% at Monday’s close and close to the 19.9% priced a week ago. With bonds trading again, the 10-year Treasury yield is 5.19% and the 2-year is 4.78%, both lower than Friday. The 10-year TIPS yield, a common measure of real interest rates, was last 2.87%. Higher real rates raise the cost of holding a metal that pays no interest, which keeps rates the main headwind for gold.
That is why Wednesday’s inflation report matters. Forecasts compiled by Forex Factory call for consumer prices to rise 0.6% in September and 3.6% from a year earlier, up from 3.4%. A hotter number would add to the case for another hike.

What today’s move means if you buy physical gold or silver
Gold is back near the middle of its two-week range, and silver has lagged. Many of our customers buy on a schedule or add on down days, and they compare premiums as well as spot. A few practical points:
- Your price is confirmed when you order. Our prices follow the live market, so the price you lock in is today’s price.
- Compare the premium over spot. Most products on our site show their “% over spot” under the price, so you can compare a coin with a bar on equal terms.
- Listed price or card price. Wire, paper check and crypto via Uphold pay the listed price. Credit or debit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay pay the card price. Domestic orders paid by wire qualify for free insured shipping.
- Buying for retirement? See which coins and bars meet the fineness rules on our IRA-eligible metals page.
- Selling? We make two-way markets. Call the desk at 1-855-528-4653 for a live bid, or see how selling works.
Auto-Buy places a recurring order for American Eagles or a 10 oz silver bar, weekly to every two months, priced at the live market on each order date. Every Auto-Buy order ships free and insured, you get a reminder before each one, and you can skip, pause or cancel anytime.

Frequently asked questions
What is the gold price today?
Before the New York open, Ausecure’s gold ask was $4,189.60 an ounce at 8:37 AM ET on Oct 13, 2026, up $13.80 (0.3%) from Monday’s closing ask of $4,175.80. Spot traded between $4,150.79 and $4,200.63 overnight. By 11:33 AM ET it had slipped to $4,166.80, down $9.00 (0.2%) on the day. For the current bid and ask, see our live metal prices page.
Why was gold up before the open?
The dollar index fell 0.3% and the 10-year Treasury yield dropped about 0.05 percentage point as U.S. bonds reopened after Columbus Day, and Brent crude eased about 1.3%. By our estimate the weaker dollar explains all of gold’s 0.3% overnight gain.
Did gold hold $4,150 overnight?
Yes, so far. Gold fell to $4,150.79 at 9:45 PM ET on Oct 12, just above the $4,143–$4,150 area where it broke out last Thursday, but no 15-minute bar closed below $4,155. It then rose to $4,200.63 at 1:15 AM ET.
When is the CPI report this week?
The September consumer price index is due Wednesday, Oct 14, 2026 at 8:30 AM ET (7:30 AM CT). Forecasts compiled by Forex Factory call for a 0.6% monthly rise and 3.6% from a year earlier.
Is a small rise before CPI a good time to buy gold?
We don’t give investment advice, and no one can reliably call short-term moves around a data release. Some buyers wait for the number; others buy a fixed amount on a schedule so they don’t have to time the market, which our Auto-Buy program does automatically. Whatever you choose, compare the premium over spot and buy from a dealer that confirms your price when you order.
